Thesis | BOUCLÉ TWINS
Made from solid walnut and bouclé, this senior thesis collection explores how furniture can be designed to last. Each chair pairs a durable material palette with careful craftsmanship, creating pieces meant to remain useful, comfortable, and relevant for years to come.
How might we reframe the value of furniture?
As furniture chases trends and convenience, it has lost the
permanence that once made it worth keeping.
We lose opportunities for:
- Orienting our bodies into different positions that we find more comfortable.
- Supported interaction to work, relax, or have a conversation.
- Any “wonder” or personal form that sparks curiosity.
- Identity that mass-manufactured replicas have replaced.
- Quality craft and materials.
- Forming a bond and crafting rituals with our furniture.
- Realistic justification for paying a higher price for a piece we can see using forever.

Quality Material Expression and an Inviting Form
- Does the form spark curiosity/a sense of wonder?
- Can you tell how it was made?
- Does it stand the test of time?
Comfortable Customizability
- Can I freely orient myself?
- Can I both work and relax?
- Can I sit in this for a while?
- Is it comfortable?
Encourages Trust
- Does it function?
- Does it fit in my space?
- Does it balance form and function?
- Is it beautiful?
