HOW MIGHT WE REFRAME THE VALUE OF FURNITURE?

As furniture chases trends and convenience, it has lost the permanence that once made it worth keeping.

We lose opportunities for:
- Orienting our bodies into different positions that we find more comfortable.
- Supported interaction to work, relax, or have a conversation.
- Any “wonder” or personal form that sparks curiosity.
- Identity that mass-manufactured replicas have replaced.
- Quality craft and materials.
- Forming a bond and crafting rituals with our furniture.
- Realistic justification for paying a higher price for a piece we can see using forever.

VESSEL AND CRAFT | FORM STUDY

In search of inspiration for a rustic yet contemporary bedroom side table, the design turned to traditional cooperage and maritime craft. These are historical forms that have long paired wood and metal with both utility and aesthetic clarity. The resulting open-faced architecture invites you to store and display personal objects, utilizing custom-cut joinery channels for the vertical planks alongside raw, exposed hardware where the mechanical assembly defines the vintage character.
